Tradition is a big part of who I am. I could give you a play by play of every single Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter before it even took place for the first 24 years of my life. But after moving across the country nine years ago away from my family and friends some of those traditions fell by the way side, and certainly not for lack of trying on my part. Thankfully my cousins who live close by were a big part of…
Okay guys, I haven’t even finished one coffee yet and I’m buzzed! What better way to kick off the week of St. Patrick’s Day than this. Ha! I myself am not Irish (I hail from a long Scottish bloodline) but I am a Cape Bretoner, and well, we’ve been known to enjoy a drink or two. However it’s Monday morning and I am a stay at home Mom. You’re right, why let that get in the way? Coffee and homemade “Bailey’s”…
I didn’t think I was going to be able to post this blog because I was in such a rush I couldn’t take the time to take good photos and give proper credit to where it is due. But the guest of honor is too near and dear to my heart not to shine a little spotlight on. This weekend we threw a baby shower for my cousin Janna, who along with her husband Colin are expecting their first baby…
“Wow, they’re beautiful…but what are you going to do with them all?” A question I am asked more often than I’d like to admit. My daughter is prime play-dough playing age so I play A LOT with play-dough. We’ve created everything from cupcakes to Barbie’s swimming pool complete with beach balls. So to step up our game a little (okay, my game) I bought some clay. Maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but who knew what fun! Once I…
Oh Valentine’s Day. I was never one to get very excited about this holiday; I’m not the overly romantic mushy type and I don’t expect too much in terms of chocolates and flowers. To be completely honest my birthday falls a few days before Valentine’s Day and that’s when I expect a big show ha! But since having my daughter and experiencing this new kind of Motherly-Love I think why shouldn’t we celebrate all types of love. So I baked…
Banana’s are forever rotting on my counter tops. My intentions are good, I know how nutritious bananas are for me so I continue to buy them but it’s not my first choice when it comes to fruit. Other than adding them to smoothies I literally have to choke it down when I eat one. In the seventh grade there was a winter carnival event at our school where we had to take a “mystery” food from a brown paper bag…
About three years ago I purchased a used solid oak dining table and six upholstered oak chairs in excellent condition from a yard sale for $100. Score! I completely refinished the set myself for my own kitchen after nothing in the (affordable) furniture stores was catching my eye. It was only my second or third refinishing project at the time, but it turned out beautifully. I received some great instruction from my Dad and I really took my time with…
All week I’ve been doing really well at choosing healthy foods for snacks and meal times (and feeling better for it!) But yesterday we woke up to an extra cold winter wonderland and my little one and I were craving some good old fashioned comfort food – oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! We didn’t waste any time grabbing what we needed from the pantry and got to work. This recipe is one of those beauties that can be thrown together quickly…
I love ginger everything so when it came time to bake a cake for Aaron’s birthday I was in the mood for some Christmas-y ginger flavors so I baked him a gingerbread cake with cream cheese icing decorated with chocolate trees. I never mind a strong ginger flavor but the cream cheese icing I used for this cake gave a nice contrast to the taste of the spices. Naturally, if you want less spicy cake use less spice! Sorry, I…
With so much going on the last few weeks getting ready for all the gifts, gobbles and glory sitting down long enough to get a blog post out there just wasn’t achievable but I am going to share a little of our Christmas with you anyway. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. I love all the preparation leading up to it but I have to be honest; this year it took a lot out of me! Nonetheless,…
