Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Smoothie

December 11, 2016

Brr!  Anyone who knows me I’m sure is getting tried of me complaining about how cold it is in Alberta this weekend but come on, -39° C with the wind!  I know, I sound like a little old lady with all this talk about the weather.  But any parent who has to remove their child’s parka to fit them in their car seat knows what I am talking about right now.  One stop shopping from here on out!

On top of the Great Freeze, last week was the week of cold and flu in our house.  Mairead and I both felt rotten and with a mad dash to get everything sent to Cape Breton in time for Christmas and two trips to the doctors office on top of it all left us feeling run down.  Yesterday morning I woke up craving something that would give me a boost and this reinvention of the traditional bowl of porridge certainly did the trick.  I had so much energy after I drank this smoothie!  And it kept me full right until lunch.  I liked this meal-in-a-glass so much that I made it for breakfast again this morning.

I’ve tried a couple different variations of this smoothie with various outcomes, but one thing is for sure; you will want to soak the oats in the milk to soften and you’ll want to blend it extra well or else you’re chewing it down or it’s too thick to suck through a straw.  So that’s the advice.  Drink up and enjoy!

Wow, this looks amazing! Definitely going to try it. What type of blender do you use Krista?

Thanks! I have a 12-speed Hamilton Beach dispensing blender, but it’s nothing fancy. Any kitchen blender should do, I can’t stress enough though to let those oats soak in the milk before blending for a smoother drink!
