Summertime Lemonade Stand

July 5, 2017

We’re in business!  The past two weekends, Mairead has been raking in the cash with her new lemonade shoppe, one quarter at time.  It’s been the latest hangout for all the kids on the block.   Of course, they have all had to try their hand at customer service.  There are some serious business men and women in the making on our street!

Our neighbours were generously supportive of Mairead’s new business.  Our mail carrier and even two RCMP officers purchased some…..but not before resolving a domestic dispute across the street first!  It was actually quite hilarious.  The cops handcuffed a man and put him in the back of a cruiser, while the kids were yelling, “LEMONADE!  COME GET YOUR LEMONADE!”  (I want to move).

The idea for the lemonade stand originated when I was accumulating a giant pile of stuff in the basement to sell in a yard sale.  Unbeknownst to her, a few of Mai’s old toys have landed in that pile.  Because she refuses to part with anything, I am kind of dreading the meltdown that is going to happen on yard sale day.  So the lemonade stand is my attempt to create a distraction while I try to get rid of some of our old “junk.”

This adorable stand could not have been easier to make, and with minimal materials.  I paid just under $10 each for the crates, scored a gallon of paint for $9 that was in the “wrong color” bin at Home Depot, about $2 for the posts on the side and created the banner from an old sheet I had stuffed in the closet.  I purchased a pack of mini donuts and added the sprinkles and went overboard with a number of lemons I bought, so I threw a few of those as decor as well.   And Mairead added her little cash machine for all her hard earned bucks (so friggin cute).  It couldn’t have turned out better.  I love it!  More importantly, so does Mairead!  🙂
