Halloween Decor: Spooky Twig Wreath DIY

October 26, 2016

I am all over the place this week.  I thought yesterday was Friday and I thought today was Sunday.  My mind is muddled.  Aaron worked out of town for 24 days in a row and came home for ONE day!  He is heading back tonight for another who-the-hell-knows-how-long shift.  It’s been rough on everyone but I’ll take every little bit I can get when it comes to having him home (and getting a break)!  He and Mairead are upstairs jumping on the bed playing air guitar and I’m not sure who’s happier out of the two.

With Halloween less than a week away I put together a little display at the front entrance but there was still something missing.  Even Mairead agreed it wasn’t spooky enough.  After some internet shake down I found some inspiration from Erin at Earnest Home Co. after she came up with their own creation of something she saw at Crate and Barrel.

I love the challenge of creating something for less and even more so if I’ve already got the materials on hand.  Another perk; other than gathering a few sticks and twigs on a bike ride with Mai, this spooky wreath took only about 20 minutes to put together.  I love a project that I can complete from start to finish in one sitting.  Check out the steps I took for this bad boy below.  If you’ve made any Halloween decor share it with me, I’d love to see it!  Happy haunting!

Materials needed:

Twigs
Hot glue gun
Black spray paint

What to do:

Begin by breaking apart the twigs into random lengths.  Mine were about 6-12 inches in length.

Choose 4-6 of the larger twigs and glue them into a circular shape as best you can to create a base for the wreath.

From there, randomly glue each twig layering them around the base.  The less tidy the better, you’re going for Addams Family home decor here not Martha Stewart.

Once you are satisfied with the amount of twigs allow the glue to dry.  Then in a well ventilated area spray paint the wreath black until no wood is left exposed.

Allow the wreath to dry completely before hanging it up.
