Do-It-Yourself

DIY Rose Petal Body Scrub

September 13, 2016

I can’t imagine anyone who would not love the feeling of healthy skin.  We could all stand to give a little extra care to our body’s largest organ.  It’s easy to forget how we treat our skin can directly affect our health and with all the sunshine and makeup I expose my skin to I am no exception.  About 10 years ago I became obsessed with learning about the harmful chemicals in my food, beauty and household products.  I hated shopping at the grocery stores and pharmacies because all I could think about was all of the poisons I was being exposed to no matter what I chose.  My obsession actually became really unhealthy not to mention how irritated my friends were becoming from having to listen to all my ranting.  I was eventually able to dial it back a bit and after a few good conversations at my local health food store I learned a lot of great ways to find a healthy balance.

But one natural product that stuck was my love for sweet almond moisturizing oil.  This oil makes my skin feel incredible and I’m convinced using this throughout my pregnancy is the reason I have not a single stretch mark!  I use it alone or with essentials oils regularly and the combinations of scrubs, lotions and bath and beauty products are endless.  This rose petal body scrub takes only a minute to make and will leave your skin feeling wonderful.

(Now here comes the rant)… If you haven’t got a rose bush in your garden you can use, I would err on the side of caution and use roses that have not been heavily sprayed with chemicals.  Sometimes those beautiful bouquets we see in our local markets are coming from as far away as China and since you are rubbing this on your skin you may want to have a quick chat with your local florist to find out what’s safest to use.  If you are still unsure and don’t want to use the rose petals just go ahead with adding the rose essential oil in your scrub.  Not only will you benefit from the aromatherapy properties of rose essential oil but it contains vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties so in addition to great looking skin after your scrub you may feel better on the inside as well!  Now get scrubbing!

Love this! I’m with you on the chemicals and airing on the side of caution. I usually just spend tonnes of money to buy natural but this seems super easy.
