Happy Halloween everyone! I know it’s been a crazy long time since I’ve shown my face around these parts but I needed to take a step back and readjust some things, but I am back and ready to roll! And just in time for some Halloween fun! My little “Princess Anna” and big skeleton just left for trick-or-treating around the neighborhood and I am left here to hand out candy, which is fine by me! **nibble nibble** I have always loved Halloween (for obvious reasons) but also the traditions behind it. My family was always really great about dressing up and playing fun pranks with the more tolerant neighbors and of course sharing a few ghost stories. Another tradition which I miss dearly was the Feasting of Fuarag (pronounced foodick). Dating before my time, this Gaelic Cape Breton tradition was to set a bowl of fuarag on the table on Halloween night and each person who came by would have a spoonful from each house. You’ll almost laugh at the recipe it is so simple: a fine oatmeal that is browned in the oven for a few minutes to enhance the flavor sprinkled over a bowl of whipped cream. (I …
